We got to spend time on the now ex- shark fishing boats, visiting secluded beaches, exploring coral cays as well as visiting the island where the fisherman /tour guides call home with their families. The project offered us an experience like no other, giving us a first hand look into the lives of the young men, whose lives and the lives of their families are positively changing thanks to Project Hiu.”

I was gifted the opportunity to go on the boats, snorkel the beautiful waters. I got to see a baby shark nursery, monkeys, islands, beautiful reefs filled with sea life. The fishermen families love their world, and have so much fun sharing it with others. They want to share their world with you, and by using the boats for tourism, @projecthiu has saved the lives of the fishermen and the sharks. The people of Lombok are loving, they are funny, they make amazing food and delicious coffee, I will absolutely be back and highly recommend supporting an organization where you can see the changes being made. Project Hiu is helping the schools, giving scholarships to students, air conditioning to families, and creating income for a community that others have taken advantage of.

I recently went on a weeklong trip with Project Hiu in April 2024, and it was an experience worth sharing. I wholeheartedly endorse this trip for anyone, particularly those with a fervor for sharks, ocean conservation, community engagement, and cultural immersion. This isn't your typical tourist excursion, although the accommodations and amenities in Kuta are commendable. Instead, it offers a glimpse beyond the postcard-perfect facade of tropical paradise, revealing both its merits and challenges.

With a group size of eight, you have the opportunity to bond with like-minded individuals, forging connections while still having enough space and time to engage with Maddy and the fishermen, picking their brains about anything you wish to learn.
