This mission represents a huge leap forward for our research. Tagging mature and gravid females is particularly valuable, as it provides rare data on reproductive movement patterns, potential pupping areas, and cross-boundary habitat use.
These data are critical for identifying high-risk overlap between tiger sharks and fisheries and for informing evidence-based management and protection strategies. From all of us at Project Hiu: thank you for backing the work that happens far beyond the surface.
All vessels likely to interact with these sharks, even ones we don’t work with, have been given clear instructions on the financial reward offered for a release as well as proper techniques to ensure the sharks best chance for survival & safe release.
Your donations save sharks, the sharks we’ve tagged, the sharks that would have potentially been caught & as a result, changes the future of our oceans.
2025, 9 more sharks are tagged as part of our research
